Believing For Greater Things

NOTE: This post was originally published in the Fall of 2020 – but definitely applies as we start 2021 with election chaos and Snowmaggedon – TC

In this pandemic season, we’ve grown accustomed to seeing videos of ensembles recorded remotely and assembled into a zoom-like matrix. The Choir and Orchestra at Houston’s First has created several of these over the past months of covid-craziness and the videos have been a source of encouragement to the Body at Houston’s First as well as a way for the ministry of the Choir and Orchestra to continue in this season.  This video is a service video from early January, when the song There’s Nothing That Our God Can’t Do was brand new to most people and most of us had only heard a little bit about a new Coronavirus overseas. The promise of a new year – a clean slate – a fresh start – a chance to begin again. What would 2020 hold for me? My family? My ministry? Our friend and former Worship Leader, John Bolin set up the bridge so perfectly at the dawn of a new year by encouraging us to make the lyric our prayer for 2020.

I will believe for greater things

There’s no power like the power of Jesus

Let faith arise – let all agree

There’s no power like the power of Jesus

Seven months later as I was editing this video, John’s exhortation hit me right between the eyes…this should still be our prayer for 2020 and beyond! God is still on the throne, His plans are still for our good, His mercy is brand new today, and as we remove our focus from distractions, challenges, and obstacles, He so graciously increases our faith to move forward….not paralyzed by fears and uncertainties, but leaning on the Author and Architect of our world who reigns above all! Watch and listen – let the words wash over you – and most of all, be encouraged today to believe for greater things and rest in the promises of our amazing God!

Is anything too difficult for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” Genesis 18:14

‘Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You, Jeremiah 32:17

“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” Jeremiah 32:27

But He said, “The things that are impossible with people are possible with God.” Luke 18:27
